In the semester leading up to the study alone, 17.3 million Argentines were affected by poverty, a million more poor people than before.
This would be the highest poverty rate since 2005, but it is not the only indicator of vulnerability that is evident in this country. According to the Institute of Statistics of this country, poverty It affects 8.1% of the Argentine population.
It is worth noting that the poverty line in Argentina is set depending on household income in relation to the basic basket of goods and services, and poverty is determined on the basis of the food basket.
How much is the basic basket in Argentina?
Until last month, a basic food basket was thought to cost 177,000 pesos, about $820, for a family of four.
Only one basic grocery basket for four people, it costs about 80,000 pesos, the equivalent of about US$370, the same amount that will reach the minimum wage in April.
Recall that Argentina is facing high inflation, which only in 2022 reached 94.8%, the highest level in more than 30 years. Annual inflation now, by February, reaches 102.5%.
