It is important to achieve the establishment of uniform conditions for the transportation of all Ukrainian cargo in the Azov-Black Sea basin.
The complete unblocking of maritime commercial traffic in the Black Sea and the opening of Ukrainian ports for all types of cargo will allow Ukraine to create conditions for the growth of industrial production and GDP, as well as saving and restoring thousands of jobs. This is stated in the appeal of the European Business Association (EBA) to the UN and the Turkish authorities, as well as to the Foreign Ministry and Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov, published on Tuesday, March 28.

“The opening of the ports will be a strong factor in stabilizing the hryvnia exchange rate, as it will provide additional significant foreign exchange earnings. Business is determined to support and develop the economy of Ukraine. It expects both will decide on actions from international partners,” the EBA said in a statement.
The association noted that the blockade of Ukrainian ports has made inaccessible markets, the delivery of which is carried out by sea. The negative impact on the economy can be seen in the loss of foreign exchange earnings, the impossibility of restoring industrial production and the decline of Ukraine’s GDP. Experienced the main areas of export – the agro-industrial complex, mining and metallurgical, etc.
“Undoubtedly, the grain corridor has an important role in maintaining food security in the world. However, it is important to focus not only on the full work of the grain initiative, but also to achieve the establishment of uniform conditions for in the transportation of all goods in the Azov-Black Sea basin for Ukraine. And, of course, the best solution is the complete unblocking of maritime commercial traffic in the Black Sea and opening of ports in Ukraine for all kinds of cargo. It is very important for export industries to extend full employment and unblock logistics chains,” the association stressed.
The EBA said that today some of Ukraine’s export industries are experiencing perhaps the most difficult times in the history of independent Ukraine. In particular, the mining and metallurgical complex is still in crisis: the workload of most enterprises has fallen by more than 50% from the pre-war level. The agricultural potential is also not fully utilized: only about 10 million tons of agricultural products are not sent to international markets.
“Therefore, the European Business Association appeals to the United Nations (UN) and Turkey, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov with a proposal to join forces and contribute to the implementation of the strategy for on the complete unblocking of Ukrainian sea ports of the Black Sea for commercial transportation of all types of cargo and the implementation of guarantees for the safety and freedom of navigation of merchant ships in the Black Sea in accordance with the standards of modern international law,” the association. graduate
The other day, a study was published, according to which the unblocking of ports would give Ukraine 10% of GDP. It was also noted that while Ukraine lost more than 60% of trade due to the blockade of ports, Russia managed to increase it by the end of 2022.
It was also reported that the Ministry of Infrastructure called ports a key element in Ukraine’s economic stability and its growth.
