Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas sued on Friday for failing to “Look” over his shoulder after issuing a controversial draft conclusion that would undermine Roe v. Wade.
He referred to the disclosure, written by Judge Samuel Alito and not yet final, “a kind of betrayal” that destroys trust in the court and forces the judiciary to treat itself with suspicion.
“What happened in court was very bad,” Thomas said in an interview led by the Conservative American Enterprise Institute in Dallas, the Manhattan Institute and the Hoover Institution.
“Look where we are, where we are now. That trust or belief is gone forever, ”he said.
“When you lose trust, especially in the institution I run, the institution changes radically. You start to look over your shoulder. It’s like an infidelity that you can explain … but you can’t undo ”.
Thomas also spoke out against ongoing protests against the draft report outside judicial houses. He argued that the left had adopted an “inappropriate” tactic that the Conservatives had never used to completely ignore the violent uprising in the U.S. Capitol last year when Donald Trump supporters tried to overthrow the a legitimate presidential election. His wife, Virginia “Ginny” Thomas, worked behind the scenes to change the U.S. election as president.
“You will never visit the homes of Supreme Court judges when things are not going the way we want,” Thomas said. “We didn’t show any habit. It is our duty to always act right and not pay the title “.
He also said that “conservatives have not expelled the Supreme Court candidate,” which happened last month after hearing testimony from Ketanji Brown Jackson to become a Supreme Court judge.
He complains that the left is destroying important institutions.
“I wonder how long we will have these institutions at a rate that weakens them, and then I wonder when they are lost or destabilized, what we will have as a country. “I don’t think there is good hope if we continue to lose them,” Thomas warned.
Thomas fondly recalls his Supreme Court days during the 11 years of both judges before Chief Justice Roberts took office in 2005. “We really trusted each other,” Thomas said. “We may be a dysfunctional family, but we are a family.”
If someone said, “Someone leaked a line of thought … you would say, ‘Impossible.’ Nobody. ”It’s loud,” he said.
Roberts ordered a leak investigation.
A week earlier, Thomas had insulted Americans in a speech because they were “addicted” to the kind of consequences they wanted and instructed them to overcome it and “live” with decisions they didn’t want.
Critics have criticized her for saying her husband could not “live” the election results and used the power and access she had as the wife of a Supreme Court judge to fight to overthrow them.
