The continuation of the operation of the Nord Stream gas pipeline is more than a political issue, said the head of the E.ON concern.
Nord Stream AG, the operator of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, is busy closing and draining the damaged pipeline. This is what the financial director of the German energy concern E.ON Mark Spieker said in a press conference, TASS reports on Wednesday, March 15.

“The operator’s company is now focused on how to seal and drain the two destroyed pipelines so that the corrosion does not spread further. This is what the company is now focusing on,” he said.
Answering the question of whether the work of the Nord Stream will be continued and whether its repair will begin, Shpiker said that he did not want to speculate on this topic. He added that repairs can only begin after the pipe is sealed.
“We continue to fulfill our obligations as a minority shareholder in Nord Stream 1. We do not consider it right to leave everything to Gazprom,” Shpiker stressed.
In this regard, the head of E.ON, Leonard Birnbaum, added that technically “a lot is possible”, but the continuation of the work of Nord Stream is more than a political issue.
Earlier on Wednesday, it was learned that E.ON has completely divested its 15.5% stake in the Nord Stream gas pipeline operator, Nord Stream AG. The decrease in the assessment of E.ON’s share in the project for the year amounted to approximately 1.2 billion euros. At the same time, the concern continues to be a shareholder of the project.
Last week, Reuters reported, citing sources, that Russia had decided to mothball the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines.
