In the UK, a unique 1972 The Beast has been put up for auction by Car and Classic.
The world’s only unique sports car The Beast is up for auction at UK Car and Classic. The description says it’s in working condition, according to the publication Ukraine behind the wheel.
The story of the Beast began in 1966 when Paul Jameson designed the frame and purchased a variant of the Rolls-Royce Merlin aircraft engine called the Meteor, designed for use on tanks. He never completed the project, eventually selling the engine and chassis to British mechanic John Dodd, who completed the design with a fiberglass body in 1972.
A gearbox specialist, he also modified a General Motors Turbo 400 3-speed automatic to run the massive V12.
This naturally aspirated engine is said to produce 750 horsepower, while supercharged production versions of the Meteor are rated at 1,500 horsepower. Dodd himself claimed 950 horsepower. and 1030 Nm of torque. During the tests of the Royal Automobile Club in 1973, the “Beast” reached a speed of almost 300 km / h.
The car was damaged in a fire. The original engine was replaced with a new one with identical specifications, and the original body was replaced with a Shooting Brake version.
It is worth noting that the Beast once had a Rolls-Royce grille – as a sign of respect for the machine. However, the company sued the owner and won. At the same time, in British registration documents, the car is still listed as a Rolls-Royce.
The car has had four owners over the years, all members of the Dodd family.
