After two months of conflict, the blockade on highways such as the Inter-Ocean Highway has been loosened, Minister of Energy and Mines (Minem) Oscar Vera said. This script encourages restart mining such as bamba in the Apurimac area.
“This is the end (of the blockade), we saw the opening of a dialogue and the normalization of activities. (As for Las Bambas) almost all roads are free and it is likely that it will resume work in the coming days,” the minister said.
This argument was one of those presented to investors in mining convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC 2023).
How to convince the business community to invest in the midst of conflict?
At the exhibition of Oscar Vera Speaking to investors, the minister stressed that Peru has large reserves of minerals, and they have not yet been developed to a significant extent.
“Only Peru ceded 14% of its entire territoryis a small amount. In terms of mining activities, we have only 1.4%; that is, we have a large area with the potential for mining, which can be used,” he specified.
Peru has 47 projects under development in 18 Peruvian regions, representing an investment of US$53.7 billion. “We also offered regulatory stability. Our problem is that some of the items in the statements don’t help; however, it is something concrete,” he said.
Lithium – the new mining potential
About the operation lithium in our country, a mineral used as an energy element, the minister confirmed that he has not yet started any exploration projects in the country.
“We would like the exploration work that will start to be completed … so far, exploration has not yet begun, they are at the previous stages. The good news is that there are already sightings on a company that is interested in investing, we hope that in the coming months they will begin these exploratory studies that will allow us to find out what the true potential is, ”he clarified.
