The company could become the first major manufacturer of hydrogen-powered vehicles in Europe.
The German company BMW Group plans to start producing hydrogen cars by the end of this decade. This was announced by the head of the company’s technology department, Jurgen Guldner, The Times wrote.
“We will start the production of such vehicles in the second half of this decade. I am convinced that the future depends on hydrogen,” said Guldner, speaking about the prospects for the serial production of BMW iX5 Hydrogen hydrogen-powered SUVs .
According to the publication, BMW could be the first major company to launch hydrogen-powered vehicles in Europe.
Today, there are two models of hydrogen-powered vehicles on the market. These are the Japanese four-seat Toyota Mirai sedan and the Korean crossover Hyundai Nexo.
Recall that last year the British startup Viritech introduced a powerful sports car Apricale, charged with hydrogen. In January of this year, China launched the world’s first eco-friendly train with a built-in “hydrogen energy” system.
