Finnish company Nokia Oyj has updated its logo so people no longer associate it with mobile phones, a business it abandoned nearly a decade ago, according to Bloomberg.
Now Nokia is engaged in the production of telecommunications equipment, in particular 5G.
“In most people’s minds, we are still a successful mobile phone brand, but that is not what Nokia is. We want to launch a new brand focused on networking and industrial digitalization, unlike the legacy ones that mobile phone,” said the executive. CEO of Pekka Lundmark.
Nokia also wants to accelerate the growth of its business selling private 5G networks to companies. The corporate business accounted for 8% of Nokia’s revenue last year, the CEO said, and the next goal is to push the business “into double digits,” mainly through organic growth and smaller acquisitions.
At the same time, phones under the Nokia brand are still sold by HMD Global Oy. HMD acquired the license after Microsoft, which bought the business in 2014, stopped using the name.
Recall that Nokia previously announced a world record for data transfer speeds on 5G networks. The company claims speeds of 4.7 Gbps can be achieved during tests of the base station equipment.
