Former Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Sunday that he regularly “faces” dangerous ideas under former President Donald Trump, including military action against Venezuela, attacks on Iran and a potential blockade on Cuba.
“It’s important for our country, for the Republic, for Americans, to understand what’s going on at this very important moment.” This is the last year of the Trump administration, “Esper said.” And I’ll tell you what’s being avoided. There are bad things really. “Dangerous things that can lead the country in a dark direction”.
“These ideas seem to happen every few weeks,” he added. “Something like that is going to come out and we have to get through.”
⚡️ In his new memoir, The Holy Oath, former Defense Secretary Mark Asper wrote that he forced President Trump to send aid to Ukraine and also pushed the president away with ideas like shooting protesters and launching rockets into Mexico . https://t.co/TZC1PvcbRP

Asper was the last member of Trump’s inner circle to record the last days of his rule and declared that Trump was obsessed with re-election and became brave after being acquitted in his first impeachment trial. Trump fired Asper in November 2020 after losing to Joe Biden in the presidential election.
Esper’s latest remarks about his presence at the White House were part of the prelude to the publication of his memoirs, “Secret Oath: Secretary of Defense Memoirs in an Emergency” on Tuesday.
In one case, Esper reported an occasion when Trump asked him if the United States could secretly launch missiles into Mexico to destroy cartel -run drug laboratories, and then lied about it. According to Axios, Esper also said Trump asked top officials in the country if they could order troops to shoot racial justice protesters who took to the streets after the assassination of George Floyd.
Trump denied the allegations in a statement released by 60 Minutes, saying Asper was “weak and completely ineffective” and “steadfast, desperate not to lose his job.”
“He would do whatever I wanted him to do, so I called him Jesper,” Trump said. “He was light and muscular and I realized that very quickly.”
