“From September, mortgages began to gradually recover, mainly due to the government’s lending support programs Affordable mortgage And єOselya“, said the message.
Under these programs, borrowers can obtain mortgage loans at a reduced interest rate of 7% and 3% per annum, respectively.
In September-November 2022, banks issued 252 mortgage loans for the total amount of almost UAH 280 million, and in December – 405 loans for UAH 500 million. This is the highest monthly number since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Four banks were notified of the new mortgage issuance in December.
Financial institutions during the war credit the purchase of housing almost exclusively in the secondary real estate market. The share of completed mortgage agreements in this segment reached 99% of all new mortgage loans in June-December last year.
Overall, Ukrainian banks in 2022 issued mortgage loans in 2009 for a total of UAH 1.96 billion. Compared to 2021, new mortgage lending decreased 5.3 times in terms of the number of contracts and 4.3 times in financial terms.
Results of the banks’ monthly survey – banks’ self-assessment of their own mortgage portfolios. Therefore, they may not match the official statistics posted on the NBU website.
It was previously reported that the housing of every tenth Ukrainian citizen was damaged or destroyed as a result of Russia’s all-out invasion of Ukraine.
