It should be noted that in 2021, the export indicator increased by 34.3%, and the import – by 33.4%.
According to the NBU, the export of goods for the year decreased by 35.1% and reached $40.9 billion (in 2021 it increased by 39.8%). The main reason is the reduction in the export of ferrous and non-ferrous metals by 62.6%.
Food exports decreased by 15.5% mainly due to a 26.2% decrease in cereal exports, while oil and oilseed exports increased by 2.5%.
Imports of goods throughout the year decreased by 20.3% (in 2021 increased by 34.3%), its volumes reached $55.6 billion. Energy imports decreased by 8.9%. Non-energy imports also decreased – by 23.2%.
The trade deficit in services reached $9.1 billion (in 2021, the surplus was $4 billion): exports of services decreased by 12.1%, while the growth of imports of services is estimated in 1.8 times.
Imports of services increased due to the costs of people (increased 3.2 times) who went abroad because of the war and short-term migrants – up to $20.2 billion.
At the same time, imports of all other services decreased by 37.0%.
According to the NBU, the current account surplus in 2022 was $8.6 billion (5.8% of GDP) compared to a deficit of $3.9 billion (1.9% of GDP) in 2021.
“The surplus was formed mainly due to the receipt of grants from international partners and the reduction of payments on investment income. At the same time, the negative balance of trade in goods and services expanded significantly, including because at the great expense of Ukrainian citizens abroad. ,” the review said.
Excluding reinvested earnings and grants from international partners, the shortfall is $5.3 billion (in 2021, a $1 billion surplus).
