On February 1 this year, the National Institute for Statistics and Informatics (INEI) will publish a report inflation in Peru and according to Phase Consultores, price increases will be nationwide due to early election protests.

“We will see a clearer effect in the January inflation data. Already in December we had a surge due to roadblocks and less product supply, especially in some regions this caused a surge in inflation in December and will be more noticeable in January,” said Juan Carlos Odar, President of Phase Consultores.

Although the protests have radicalized in the regions of Cusco, Puno and Madre de Dios, those who do not belong to these departments will not escape the rise in prices, poor families will suffer the most.

“The impact is widespread, it’s more visible in low-income families because they allocate a lot of it to buying food… the middle class will also feel the impact, especially in food supplies,” Odar said.

Losses exceed S$3 billion

The Ministry of Economics and Finance calculated a loss of SGD 2.150 million in GDP, which stopped production between December 8 and January 23; but for Phase Consultores, the real figure is over S$3 billion.

“There are three sectors most affected: mining, services and transport. In the service sector, mining service providers and tourism, housing, restaurants, etc. are considered. Two-thirds of this impact is concentrated there, ”he said.

How is the supply of products in Peru?

The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) reported a fourth day in a row this week of falling supply in the Great Wholesale Market of Lima; In addition, Rural Potato Corporation growers are unable to harvest due to rumors of road closures.

AT Mother of God, LPG shortages were confirmed and gasoline rose to S/25 per gallon, a similar case in Ica, where both stocks are in short supply. Chicken rose to S/17 in the Apurimac region.

Cusco is facing cancellations of 90% of hotel bookings, jeopardizing the jobs of some 20,000 residents; however, due to the tourism crisis due to the blockade across the country 2 million jobs compromised.
