The British telecommunications company was acquired by TP Global Operations. Its owners are Hakan Koch and Pirros Kousios.
The telecommunications company Truphone in Britain, in which the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich owns a stake, has been sold to two European entrepreneurs for one pound sterling. Interfax-Ukraine reported this on Tuesday, January 24.
Truphone was bought by TP Global Operations, owned by entrepreneurs Hakan Koch and Pirros Kousios.
The deal was approved by the British Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
Truphone is licensed by the UK Treasury’s Office of Financial Sanctions Enforcement (OFSI).
According to the Financial Times, it was valued at £410m in 2020. It has received over £300m of investment from Abramovich and two other Russian businessmen, Alexander Abramov and Alexander Frolov.
However, Truphone’s future is up for debate after Britain imposed sanctions on Abramovich, who owns 23% of the company, in March 2022.
In June it became known about plans to sell it to European businessmen. In November, Abramov and Frolov were also included in the UK sanctions list. OFSI joined the sale process.
Businessmen Hakan Koch and Pirros Kousios have pledged up to £15m over the next few years to Truphone, which has posted losses for 15 consecutive years.
We remind, earlier it became known that the state of the Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich was reduced in 2022 by more than 50%, to $ 7.8 billion.
