The Comptroller General of the Republic stated the economic damage in the amount of more than 986 million 607 thousand somoni in Metropolitan of Lima as a result of corruption.
These losses due to corruption and misconduct occurred mainly in Municipality of Limawhere an economic loss of SGD 428 million 332,743 was recorded.
According to the Accounts Chamber, 52.5% of the capital’s municipalities, that is, five out of 10, have a “high” or “very high” level of corruption.
The highest level of corruption was evident in the municipality of Santiago de Groove, with a score of 97.1. This is followed by Metropolitan Lima (86.3), San Isidro (79.5), Chorrillos (78.0) and Miraflores (77.9).
But the municipalities with the lowest scores for corruption and functional impairment were Rimac (29.9) and Punta Hermosa (25.3).
In addition, the sectors with the largest economic losses were transport (SG$2,855m), housing (SG$829m), culture (SG$129m) and economy (SG$107m).
How much is the country losing?
Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor reported that economic damage for corruption and misconduct of officials is SGD 24,262 million until 2021.
This figure represents 13.6% of the national budget, with Arequipa, Loreto, Puno, Ucayali and La Libertad reporting the highest losses due to corruption.
