After the protesters took over the mining camp Antapacean company in Thorn, CuscoThe company said they must evacuate 2,400 people, including workers and contractors whose integrity is at risk.
On the ninth day of the macro-regional strike for early elections protests intensified in Cusco, where, as a result of clashes, one person died, and part of the protesters entered the mining camp and burned two cars.
“Given the intrusion that a group of vandals made today, the company will seek the necessary security conditions to begin the evacuation of personnel in order to ensure their safety,” the company said about the seizure.
The statement warned that only “essential personnel” would remain and called for “respect for the integrity of workers and civilians.”
