According to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), on that Friday, the price per kilogram of chicken in Lima was the lowest in a year.
In the morning they reported that the chicken in wholesale markets from the capital it is sold at a price of 4.60 to 4.80 chests per kilogram, which is one sole less than yesterday, when the price was registered up to 5.60 chests per kilogram.
But what should be the reason for this fall in the price of one of the staples of the Peruvian family basket? Midagri points out that farms and merchants sell their produce in Lima to ensure it sells.
“There is a fear of farms and merchants that the blockade of highways leads to the loss of their production, and they only sell in Lima (…) In other words, they do not sell in the provinces for fear of the blockade,” they pointed out.
The average price of chicken in the wholesale markets is about 4.72 shillings per kilogram, while a week ago it cost 6.80 shillings in these collection centers.
How much does it cost in retail markets?
Until yesterday, Midagri pointed out that in markets In retail, the average price of chicken last week was SGD 9.33 per kilo. However, in some supply centers, the price of poultry may be higher than this amount.
The Midagri portal “Mi Caserita” indicates that even in some markets in Lima, a bird can cost more than SGD 11 per kilogram. For example, in the Bolivar market in Pueblo Libre, chicken is sold for SGD 11.63; and in the market of San José de Jesus Maria the price is 11.43 S/.
Considering that a chicken has an average weight of 2 kilograms at 80 grams, then buying a whole bird in Retail market from Lima may cost you more than S/26.
On the other hand, on the web pages of supermarkets, you can see that frozen chicken is offered at a price of SGD 8.89 per kilogram.
It is worth noting that until 2021, the San Fernando companies, the Chimu farm associated with San Fernando, Redondos, Rico Pollo and Avinka, will represent more than 60% production national chicken.
