Automobile Association of Peru reported that the sale electric vehicles in 2022 it was 84.2% higher than registered in 2021.
“This growth is a prime example of greater public awareness about caring for Wednesdaywhich has gone hand in hand with a wider and more diverse dealer offering, which has made it easier for these devices to enter the Peruvian market,” said Alberto Morisaki, AAP Economic Research and Statistics Manager.
Commercialization hybrid cars and the electric utility added 248 units in the last month of 2022, with sales for the year reaching 2,680 units, up 84.2% from 2021.
What type of vehicle is the consumer looking for?
Morisaki explained that consumers were looking for 2022 conventional hybrid vehicles or HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) with 2408 units (+76.5%), followed by pure electric vehicles or BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) with 165 units (+400%) and a plug. – in hybrids or PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) with 107 units (+84.5%).
One element that the expert highlighted is that, as part of the participation of technology environmentally friendly cars, is that conventional hybrids are most preferred, although their participation has decreased from 93.75% in 2021 to 89.85% in 2022; while pure electric gained strength, rising from 2.27% to 6.16%, and plug-in hybrids remained at 3.99%.
Despite encouraging results, Morisaki noted that they are not enough to come close to sales in other countries in the region, leaders in this segment. In Colombia, the reference and neighboring country, cars sale electrified cars in 2022, according to Andemos, amounted to 27,845 units, exceeding sales in the Peruvian market by more than 10 times. Thus, the penetration of electrified vehicles in Colombia was 10.6%, while in Peru the indicated figure was 1.5%.
“The results obtained in terms of sales of low and/or zero emission vehicles show us an encouraging outlook for the future,” said the CEO.
