Oilseeds – rapeseed and sunflower, as well as soybeans, are becoming a priority for farmers, Taras Vysotsky noted.

According to the results of 2023, the physical reduction of the harvest in Ukraine will be 10-15%. This was said by the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky, reports RBC-Ukraine on Tuesday, January 10.

“If we are talking about physical harvest, then we predict that the decrease will be at the level of 10-15%. This is our assessment now,” he said on the air of the telethon.

Vysotsky also noted that next year the yield may drop by 5%, noting that the word “yield” means the amount collected per hectare, and should not be confused with the physical yield indicator.

He also said that planted areas will be reoriented mainly to oilseeds.

“Oilseeds are becoming a priority for farmers. This is noticeable in the example of winter rapeseed, its area under crops has not decreased compared to last year. We also expect an increase in the areas of sunflowers and soybeans. Although “oilseeds have a lower yield per hectare, they give a lower total yield per hectare, but their cost is higher than cereals – 2-2.5 times,” added Vysotsky.

Earlier it was reported that in 2023 the expected total yield of grain crops in Ukraine will decrease by 60% in 2021, oilseeds – by 15%. Such data was published by the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business (UCAB) association.
