For the first time since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the price of gas fell below $750 per thousand cubic meters.
The price of natural gas in Europe at the beginning of trading on January 4 fell below $750 per thousand cubic meters. This is confirmed by the data of the London Stock Exchange ICE.
Since the beginning of the day, the fall in gas prices has exceeded 3%. The price of February futures at the TTF hub in the Netherlands fell to $733 per thousand cubic meters (67 euros per MWh).
Later, the quotes jumped to $762.1 per thousand cubic meters (71.71 euros per MWh).
It should be noted that such a decrease occurred for the first time since February 18, 2022.
Gas quotes fall against the backdrop of warm weather in Europe – the average air temperature in most EU countries in December remained above the climatic indicators.
Forecasts indicate that over the next two weeks, temperatures will exceed seasonal norms for much of Europe. In addition, record LNG imports and increases in wind power generation in France and Germany are helping to ease price pressures.
It will be remembered that on January 2, the purchase price for natural gas in Europe fell to 73 euros MWh.
Gas reserves in the EU once again exceeded 90 billion cubic meters
