Experts report how the war has affected Ukraine’s agricultural exports

At the beginning of the year, against the backdrop of a potential Russian attack on Ukraine, export shipments significantly increased, avoiding a larger gap in annual numbers.

In 2022, export earnings from Ukrainian agro-industrial complex products will reach about $23.3 billion, which is 16% less than last year. This was reported to the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business (UCAB).

UCAB noted that at the beginning of the year, against the backdrop of a potential Russian attack on Ukraine, export shipments increased significantly, avoiding a larger gap in annual rates: in January, export earnings were twice that of January 2021.

A particularly significant decrease in export earnings was observed in March and April, and after the establishment of alternative routes and the start of the “grain corridor”, the indicators increased significantly.

“The TOP-5 positions of the largest export earnings in 2022 are traditional export products for Ukraine: corn, sunflower oil, wheat, rapeseed and sunflower seeds. The only exception is seeds of sunflower, which was previously processed on the territory of Ukraine. Since the beginning of the war, the processing of sunflower seeds has decreased due to the temporary blockade of sea routes, which has led to the export of raw materials directly,” experts say.

UCAB also noted that agricultural products have long been a major component of export earnings, and even in the current environment, they continue to increase. In November it was 68%.

According to experts, the reasons for such growth are the significant interest of the world community in Ukrainian agricultural products, as well as more than enough of them in Ukraine, which far exceed domestic needs. .

Earlier it was reported that as part of the grain deal, from August 1, Ukraine sent 605 ships from the ports of Greater Odessa, which brought 15.9 million tons of food to the countries of Asia, Europe and Africa.
