In the past, American instructors trained the Ukrainian military in Europe. This time they are considering doing it in the USA.
The Pentagon is considering the possibility of training Ukrainian military personnel to work with Patriot systems in the United States. On Thursday, December 22, Politico reports, citing sources in the US Department of Defense.
According to the publication, the United States has trained the Ukrainian military to use M777 howitzers and HIMARS MLRS. But such training took place in Eastern Europe, Germany and the UK.
Politico added that this time the Pentagon is considering conducting all or part of the Armed Forces training to operate the Patriot in the United States, including at a military base in Oklahoma.
Sources also mentioned that currently, the final decision on the training venue is yet to be made.
Meanwhile, CNN, citing a senior US Department of Defense official, reports that training for the Ukrainian military to work with Patriot missile systems should begin “soon.”
While the Pentagon did not specify when exactly the exercise would begin or how long it would last, a senior defense official said it would begin “soon” and last “several months.”
It will be recalled that on December 21, the United States provided $1.85 billion worth of arms to Ukraine. The new military aid package includes the Patriot air defense system for the first time. The total cost of American military aid to Ukraine under President Biden has reached $21.9 billion.
