This aid package also included a JDAM precision bomb kit to help attack Russia’s immobile defensive lines.
The United States plans to transfer the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine in the next military aid package. On Tuesday, December 20, CNN reported, citing several unnamed officials.
This is said to happen this week.
It was also reported that in addition to the Patriot systems, Washington will provide Ukraine with JDAM precision bomb kits.
These kits will turn existing unguided munitions or “dumb” bombs into precision-guided “smart” bombs known as Joint Direct Attack Munitions or JDAMs.
It was noted that precision bombs could help Ukraine attack fixed Russian defense lines or other large objects. But they have to be dropped from fighter jets, which remains a big problem because of Russia’s own air defense system.
Earlier, a Voice of America correspondent told the Pentagon, citing an anonymous source in the US defense department, that the Pentagon intends to send Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine. However, the White House said they could not confirm this information.
