The St. George ribbon in the Russian Federation, according to the law, can only be used for purposes related to historical memory, and its use for other purposes will be prohibited by law.
The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted a law on fines of up to 5 million rubles or up to 5 years in prison for desecration of St. George ribbons. This was reported by the Russian propaganda agency RIA Novosti.
Such punishment is now given for public desecration of symbols of military glory – and the project includes St. George ribbon among them: a fine of up to 3 million or up to 3 years in prison for the main offense, or a fine of 2 to 5 million or up to 5 years in prison, if the crime was committed by a group of people in by prior agreement or on the Internet.
In addition, the Secretary of the United Russia General Council Turchak explained that St. George Ribbon, according to the law, can only be used for purposes related to historical memory, and its use for other purposes will be prohibited by law.
We remind you that in Ukraine there is a ban on the use of symbols of totalitarian regimes (including the St. George ribbon). Their use gives rise to criminal and administrative liability.
