Fox News host Tucker Carlson declined to discuss which candidate he would support in a hypothetical 2024 Republican primary battle between former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis this weekend. (You can see Carlson laughing at the candidate’s question at 3:06:11 in the video below.)
Carlson, who was speaking at conservative organization Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest event hosted by Charlie Kirk, took questions from the audience, including one from someone named Joshua who asked him about the possible primary showdown.
The question comes after two separate polls of Republican and Republican-leaning voters released last week found DeSantis leading Trump by double digits.
Carlson, who gave a Joker-like chuckle after arguing that his endorsement is meaningful to voters, avoided answering the question and said “who cares” what he thinks about the potential fight.
“I don’t support anyone. I have no idea what’s going to happen in the Republican primary,” said Carlson, who added that DeSantis has done an “incredible” job.
Carlson spent less than a minute talking about DeSantis before expressing his gratitude for Trump during his lengthy remarks.
“Talking to Trump is one of the great joys, one of the great animal joys of life. Because it exudes this kind of animal joy. And I love it,” Carlson said.
He added: “I think there’s a lot to criticize about Trump, I mean he’s a human being. but the idea that he personally is a monster is, shall we say, absurd. It’s just another lie. I always tell you the opposite of the truth. Trump is totally charming and engaging and funny and interesting.
Carlson later offered more information about the primary, despite declining to endorse either candidate.
“I know every person in this room is terrified of a horribly destructive mayor crashing a party … and that’s a nightmare scenario, but I don’t think it’s safe,” he said.
