Committee United Nations (UN) on Wednesday expelled Iran from a women’s rights organization by majority vote for its brutal crackdown on women-led protests.
A total of 29 members of the Economic and Social Council UN (ECOSOC) voted in favor of the measure proposed USA exclude the Islamic Republic from the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).
Eight countries voted against, 16 abstained. In order to take the action proposed USA.

Resolution ECOSOC removes Iran from the commission with immediate effect, arguing that Tehran “consistently undermines and increasingly suppresses the human rights of women and girls, including the right to freedom of expression and opinion, often with excessive force.”

He also blames the use of “egregious policies” not only on human rights, but also on the commission’s mandate, “as well as the use of deadly force that killed peaceful protesters, including women and girls.”

In early November, US Vice President Kamala Harris said her country would work with other countries to remove Iran from the commission.
The representative initially responded White House National Security CouncilPresident John Kirby welcomed the “important” vote on Iran’s treatment of “peaceful protesters in your country” and “the women who initiated these protests.”
Those opposed to the move, including Russia and China, said Iran was chosen for the body and that its expulsion would set a “dangerous precedent.”
The countries that make up the Women’s Commission are elected by the UN Economic and Social Council, whose members, in turn, are voted by the General Assembly.
Iran has been rocked by protests since September 16, when Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian Kurdish girl who was arrested for allegedly violating the country’s strict dress code, died in morals police custody.
Since then, authorities have made thousands of arrests as part of a campaign against what they consider to be riots. Iran’s judiciary has handed down 11 death sentences in connection with the protests.
