The written procedure for agreeing to new sanctions against the Russian Federation will be completed on Friday afternoon.
The heads of state and government of the member states of the European Union agreed on the ninth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. This was announced on Thursday, December 15, by Radio Liberty journalist Rikard Jozwiak at Twitter.
“The 9th EU sanctions package against Russia has been agreed! Written procedure tomorrow at noon,” he wrote.
At the same time, he added that exceptions to the export of food products from Russia still remain in the package of sanctions, but they are “clarified in such a way that each member state can take into account the interests of its national security.”
Remember that the previous day, the ambassadors of the EU countries could not agree on sanctions against the Russian Federation, and the main problem was the issue of restrictions on the supply of fertilizers from the aggressor country.
We add that the new package proposes to add to the list of sanctions almost 200 more individuals and legal entities related to rocket attacks on the civilian population of Ukraine, the abduction of Ukrainian children and their export to Russia, and the theft of Ukrainian agricultural products. The list includes the military, politicians, representatives of the Russian defense industry.
The ninth package also provides for the imposition of sanctions against three more Russian banks; application of new export controls; further economic measures in Russia’s energy and mining sectors.
The media reported who will fall under the EU’s ninth package of sanctions.
Earlier, British metallurgists asked the government to close the loophole for steel from the Russian Federation.
