The US government will send its first high-level delegation to China after Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Joe Biden pledged in Bali last month to warm their relationship. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and the Pacific Daniel Krittenbrink will accompany Laura Rosenberger, the National Security Council’s senior director for China and Taiwan, Dec. 11-14, the Department of Homeland Security announced. They will visit China, South Korea and Japan.
In China, Daniel Krittenbrink will be responsible for taking over from Joe Biden after the latter’s meeting with Xi Jinping at the G20 summit in Bali in mid-November. Then the two leaders promised.continue to responsibly manage the competition between our two countries and identify potential areas of cooperationsaid the State Department.
Joe Biden and Xi Jinping have particularly talked about recent points of contention, such as the future of Taiwan, American restrictions on the import of Chinese technological products, or even China’s influence maneuvers around the world.
Daniel Krittenbrink will also prepare the visit of Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken, scheduled for early 2023, the first visit by a prominent American diplomat to China in four years.
