This is an increase, but it is necessary to show Putin, who “respects strength”, that the Alliance is ready to deal with.
Western countries must prepare for war with Russia to present Russian President Vladimir Putin “with all seriousness.” This was stated by NATO’s Former Deputy Supreme Commander in Europe, General Richard Shirreff in an interview with the Air Force.
Shirreff said the apparent increase in military goals was “absolutely the right approach.”
“Significant resources must be allocated for this, and this must be done throughout the Alliance,” Shirreff said.
He also warned that Putin’s reaction could be aggressive, but he said the escalation was needed to show the “seriousness of the West.”
Shirreff called a war with Russia “the worst option,” adding that preparing for it is likely to deter Putin because he respects the force.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry accused NATO of a “proxy war” and warned of the high possibility of expanding the zone of hostilities beyond Ukraine.
Moscow also believes that the danger of nuclear war is real and therefore this risk should not be underestimated.
