Representatives of six EU member states sent a written demarche to the President of France because of the words about the guarantees for Russia.
Politicians of several EU countries were angered by French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement regarding security guarantees for Russia. They officially declared their disagreement with this position. On Monday, December 12, Reuters reported, citing its sources.
It was noted that the representatives of the Czech Republic, as well as Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Estonia delivered a written demarche to the Director of Continental Europe of the French Foreign Ministry. A draft of the document was passed by representatives of the Czech Republic in the capitals of other EU countries last week.
According to the agency, it criticized the idea of negotiations with the Russian Federation on European security issues, because Moscow showed that its goal in this dialogue is to divide and weaken Europe.
Earlier, Macron said the West should consider how to meet Russia’s demand for security guarantees if President Vladimir Putin agrees to talk to end the war in Ukraine. According to him, the West should consider how to meet Moscow’s need for security guarantees – primarily on the issue of “NATO approaching.”
However, after that, Macron said that Russian President Vladimir Putin should be held responsible for the war in Ukraine.
