The European Union has condemned any military support by the aggressor country of the Iranian government.
The Council of Ministers of the EU for Foreign Affairs, in a meeting on Monday, December 12, in Brussels, adopted a resolution condemning the actions of Iran in supplying weapons to Russia for use in a criminal war of aggression against Ukraine. The website of the European Council reported this on Monday, December 12.
“The EU strongly condemns and considers unacceptable any military support from Iran, including the supply of unmanned aerial vehicles for Russia’s criminal, unprovoked and unjust war of aggression against Ukraine, ” said the document.
The European Union recalled that any transfer of certain combat drones and missiles to Iran without proper authorization from the UN Security Council would be a violation of UNSCR 2231.
The EU has also expressed concern that Iran’s weapons, including drones, are made with parts of international origin, including from Europe.
“The European Union strongly warns Iran against any new arms transfers to Russia, especially against any steps towards the possible transfer of short-range ballistic missiles to Russia, which could lead to a serious escalation,” the document said.
Note that the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that Iran’s cooperation with Russia is based on common interests and is not directed against third countries. Tehran has not sent weapons to “any of the parties.”
In addition, Western countries have increased pressure on the UN, demanding that experts be sent to Ukraine to investigate downed Iranian drones used by Russia.
