Iran carried out its second execution on Monday in connection with three months of protests in the country, Mizan online, the country’s judiciary agency, reported.
“Majidreza Rahnavard, sentenced to death on November 29, for stabbing two security guards and wounding four other security guards on November 17.The agency reported that he was executed publicly in Mashhad. He was arrested on November 19, while trying to flee the country, reports Mizan online.
Multiple convictions abroad
Protests have erupted in Iran since the September 16 killing of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurd who died after she was arrested by the deputy prime minister for violating the Islamic Republic’s strict dress code.
The first execution took place on Thursday. 23-year-old Mohsen Shekari was sentenced to death for blocking a street and injuring a soldier at the beginning of the demonstrations. The announcement of his death penalty drew widespread condemnation from abroad as well as from the United Nations.
