Ukraine’s Outstanding Residents Watch as the War Ends: ‘You Feel So Bad’

Toretsky, Ukraine (AP) – War on Toretsky in eastern Ukraine is approaching again. Even the sudden crackle of the plastic water bottle is forcing the residents.

“No matter what happens, any noise, if our neighbors knock on the door, the steel door, you will be shocked,” said resident Andrei Cheromushkin. “Looks like you can’t do anything.”

Half of the more than 32,000 residents fled. Many remain deficient in basic money and resources. Depression rises to anger.

“I collect rainwater. Yes, and I prepare dishes using this rainwater. I use this water to prepare food for my dog. I use this water to clean the floors. I wash with this water. I clean the house with it. Is this normal? It’s the 21st century. ”Said resident Irina Anatolievna.

He, along with other tired residents, waited in long queues for water distribution on Monday, now that the running water has disappeared. When people entered the bottle, they handed out World War I and WWII monuments.

Before the Russian invasion, fighting finally took hold of Toretsky in 2014, when it was occupied by pro-Russian separatists. By the end of the same year, it was recovered by Ukrainian forces.

Today the mining town is located a few kilometers from the separatist -controlled Donetsk region. Not far away, Ukrainian forces are trying to stop Russia’s advance.

Residents said explosions and gunshots were loud.

But it’s not that easy to go. Some are older. Some have small children. Some, like Cheromushkin, are unemployed.

“You never know what’s going to happen tomorrow, let alone the next minute,” Cheromushkin said. His wife Tatiana called the situation “persistently depressing”.

It is also a source of ongoing concern for Vasil Chinchik, head of Toretsky’s civil and military administration.

“The enemy is deceptive.“ The enemy is not interested in infrastructure, they are not interested in civilians, ”he said.“ The enemy is acting spontaneously, using intimidation, carrying out mass bombing.

He said the most important task now is to evacuate the population until the city becomes calmer.

But evacuation takes energy and Tatiana says there is nothing left.

“I want to believe it’s about to end,” he said. “They will come to a definite agreement.”
