The Kremlin has repeatedly accused NATO allies of becoming a de facto party to the conflict, supplying Ukraine with weapons, training its troops and providing intelligence information.
The conflict in Ukraine could spiral out of control and turn into a war between Russia and NATO. On Friday, December 9, in an interview with the Norwegian broadcaster NRK, the head of NATO Jens Stoltenberg said, reports AP NEWS.
“If something goes wrong, it can lead to consequences,” said the NATO Secretary General. – This is a terrible war in Ukraine. It is also a war that could escalate into a full-scale war, which could escalate into a major war between NATO and Russia,” he said. “We are working every day to prevent this.”
At the same time, he indicated that the Alliance has increased its presence in the eastern part.
According to the Secretary General of NATO, Putin cannot doubt the readiness of the Alliance to defend its members: “The most important task of NATO is to prevent a full-scale war in Europe.”
Stoltenberg believes that Putin made a mistake when he decided to attack Ukraine.
“I don’t think he will be able to break Ukraine. On the contrary, he will mobilize more support for Ukraine,” he said.
The Secretary-General of the Alliance emphasized that the danger of the situation in which the world finds itself should not be underestimated.
As reported, according to the Secretary General of NATO, Ukraine is provided with many modern weapons systems, but it is necessary to continue discussions about additional systems.
It should be noted that Stoltenberg previously said that Germany’s contribution to the defense of the Alliance is relatively high, and that criticism of Berlin for insufficient assistance to Ukraine is unfounded.
