Since Russia’s full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, the Russian military has killed hundreds of Ukrainian civilians.
The UN has published a report on the mass killing of civilians in Ukraine by the Russian invaders. As stated on Wednesday, December 7, in the message of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the report of the Monitoring Mission detailed how Russian troops killed civilians in Ukrainian cities and villages in the regions of Kiev, Chernihiv and Sumy of Ukraine from February 24 to April 6 2022.
The head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, Matilda Bogner, said that the mass killings described in this report may have been deliberate killings.
So, the document says that in the city of Bucha near Kiev, which was under the control of Russian troops from March 5 to March 30, the mission recorded the killing of 73 civilians. Among them: 54 men, 16 women, 2 men and 1 woman. An additional 105 alleged murders are in the process of being confirmed.
The report says that the UN has now recorded the violent deaths of 441 civilians (341 men, 72 women, 20 men and 8 women) in the three regions in the first six weeks of the Russian invasion alone.
At the same time, the Organization believes that the actual numbers are probably higher, as work continues to confirm another 198 murders that took place in the Kiev, Chernihiv and Sumy regions of Ukraine during the occupation.
“Civilians have been targeted by the Russians on roads while moving within or between settlements, including in attempts to get out of the battle zone. Also, Russian soldiers have transported civilians to improvised areas of detention, and then they were killed in captivity. The bodies of many victims were found with their hands tied behind their backs and bullet wounds to the head,” said Bogner.
The UN report emphasized that of all the victims killed by the invaders, 88% were men and boys.
It will be remembered that since February 24 in the Kharkiv region, more than 1,600 people died at the hands of the invaders, including 74 children.
