Russia should be punished for crimes committed on the territory of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General insisted.
Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova spoke at a meeting of the UN Security Council. There, on Wednesday, April 27, he spoke about the atrocities of the occupiers on the territory of our state.
In particular, Irina Venediktova mentioned the importance of the fact that Russia must be held accountable for crimes committed in Ukraine.
The Prosecutor General stressed that his office records all the war crimes of the occupiers. He also stressed that the actions of the Russians are comparable to the genocide of Ukrainians.
“There are signs of genocide in the actions of the Russian occupiers, because at the beginning of a comprehensive war they deliberately attacked civilian infrastructures, because of which civilians are dying,” said the Prosecutor General.
Venediktova noted that in total, the Russians destroyed more than 4,300 civilian objects. Including 275 schools, 169 kindergartens, more than 340 hospitals and more than 500 civil infrastructure facilities.
Recall, on March 25, Venediktova, Lithuanian Prosecutor General Nida Grunskiene and Prosecutor General – Minister of Justice of Poland Zbigniew Zebro signed an agreement creating the JIT to investigate the aggression of the Russian Federation and its war crimes on the territory of Ukraine. The current member of the group is Eurojust, which represents 27 EU member states and 10 other states.
