The Kremlin leader is preparing the way “to an unimaginable moral abyss,” the German chancellor believes.
Russia, under its current president Vladimir Putin, is on a “catastrophically slippery slope.” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this, Anadolu reported on Monday, December 5.
“Putin is ordering the most heinous crimes against Ukraine and at the same time is pushing his own country down a catastrophic slippery slope,” said the head of the German government, presenting the Marion Denhoff German incentive award to Irina Shcherbakova, one of the founders of the Memorial human rights center.
Scholz expressed the opinion that Putin has “hopelessly lost his way” in the Ukraine conflict.
“By launching missiles at civilians, children, women, he not only seriously violates international law, but at the same time paves the way for an unimaginable moral abyss,” he said.
The German Chancellor reiterated that Ukraine should not be a loser in this conflict, and reaffirmed Berlin’s readiness to continue providing assistance to Kiev until Russia withdraws its military.
At the same time, Scholz is convinced that the complete refusal to talk with Putin would be a big mistake and stressed the need to continue it.
Recall that last week Putin, in a conversation with Scholz, called a “forced” strike on Ukraine. The Kremlin leader also complained about the West’s “destructive line” and called for negotiations with Ukraine.
