In the northern two-thirds of the country, the cold prevails thanks to the gentle wind blowing from the east. The European continent is freezing and covered with snow. Our country will partially suffer the consequences of this first winter attack. Not only is the temperature drop accelerating, but the first snowflakes will be able to fly over the plains this weekend, reports La Chaîne Météo. Don’t expect completely white landscapes, except for the mountains, but a few sprinkles can be seen. Finally, there are some frosts in the West, generally light, and rare fogs in the Southwest.
Snow is expected to continue in some areas this weekend
Saturday will be wintry with an average of -3°C below normal. In the northern half, the wind will make you feel really cold. In this context, the expected disturbances may turn into snow in some places.
in the southeast, In the reliefs of the south-eastern regions, in particular, in the Cevennes, in the Pyrénées-Orientales and in the Southern Alps, snow will fall at an altitude of 800 to 1200 m. In the south of the Massif Central, quite heavy snowfall is possible, possibly due to isothermal effects from 800m. Wet, heavy and sticky snow can disrupt traffic in these areas. Mountain stations in these areas will be able to receive an additional 40 to 50 cm around 1800 m.
in the central east, In the plains of Auvergne, the middle Rhône valley and especially in Burgundy and Franche-Comté, there will be some snow between Saturday and Sunday night. It is possible that there will be light snow, which will not last in the plains, because the temperature will not be low enough. On the other hand, it could sprinkle the first heights of 400 to 500 m and give a slightly bleached landscape in these regions on Sunday morning.
in the north-east, The first snow flakes of the season could fall as early as Saturday morning with a very cold wind. The temperature will be around 0°C, which will allow light dusting of the ground. But in these regions between the Seine and Benelux borders, reliability is still limited and those snowflakes are not guaranteed.
Sunday’s weather configuration doesn’t change much, and it’s the same regions that will again affect the snowflakes. However, temperatures will rise a few degrees south of the Loire, which will further limit the risk of snow in the first reliefs.
