President Volodymyr Zelensky put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to ban the activities in Ukraine of religious organizations affiliated with centers of influence in Russia.
The head of state put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of December 1 “On Certain Aspects of the Activities of Religious Organizations in Ukraine and the Application of Personal Special Economic and Other Restrictive Measures (Sanctions)”. This is stated in presidential decree No. 820 of December 1. The decree comes into force on the day of publication, the President’s Office reported.
It is noted that it was necessary to consider the activities of religious organizations on Ukrainian territory in the context of the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine in order to prevent a split in society along religious lines.
The decision of the National Security and Defense Council means that the government must, within two months, submit to the Ukrainian parliament a draft law that would make it impossible for religious organizations affiliated with centers of influence in Russia to operate in Ukraine.
Recall, the National Security and Defense Council, at the request of President Volodymyr Zelensky, initiated a ban on the activities of religious organizations associated with the Russian Federation. This was previously demanded by the signatories of the corresponding petition on the President’s website, which quickly gathered more than 25,000 votes.
