Due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Moldova remains too weak to cancel the state of emergency introduced after the start of the war.
Due to the war in Ukraine, the Parliament of Moldova extended the state of emergency for another 60 days from December 6 at the suggestion of the government. NewsMaker reported it.
It was learned that 55 deputies voted for the extension of the state of emergency, including deputies of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), while the opposition left the meeting room in protest.
Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa proposed to extend the state of emergency in the country from the rostrum of the Parliament. According to him, in relation to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Moldova remains too weak to cancel the state of emergency introduced after the start of the war.
“Illegal attempts to occupy the territories of a neighboring state and the risk of using weapons of mass destruction, as well as the escalation of hybrid attacks and attempts to destabilize the social situation -economic situation in Moldova, obliges us to respond quickly to protect our citizens and refugees,” said Gavrilitsa.
It should be noted that the state of emergency in Moldova has been in effect since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24. It has been repeated several times.
Recall that on November 23, due to the Russian strike on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine, electricity problems also appeared in Moldova. Half the country was left without electricity.
