House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy made some comments on the leaked post, which seemed to alarm Fox News presenter Tucker Carlson.
In the clips, McCarthy was heard belittling some of the grassroots Republicans, including MPs Matt Gett (Florida) and Mo Brooks (Ala.), For their dangerous rhetoric about the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. United. He expressed concern that they were contributing to the violence.
At one point in the call, when he responded to a fiery tweet from MP Barry Moore (R-Ala.), McCarthy suggested banning some lawmakers on Twitter, as well as Donald Trump. The former president was fired on several social media platforms after using them to spread the lie that he was “stolen” by the 2020 election and to incite unrest.
“Can’t they release their Twitter accounts as well?” McCarthy asked.
According to the graphic shown on the screen of “Tucker Carlson Tonight”, this is equivalent to “thought control” and means “even the leaders of the Parliamentary Assembly have been censored”.
Quoting McCarty on Twitter, Carlson said the chamber leader wanted to “force disobedient lawmakers from the Internet.”
“These are the words recorded by Congressman Kevin McCarthy, a man who, personally, looks like a fellow on MSNBC,” Carlson said.
“If the Conservatives don’t act immediately,” McCarthy continued, or one of his “highly liberal allies,” such as Elise Stephanick, a member of parliament in the New York Third House of Republicans, “will likely be the speaker. “Go home in January.”
“It means we’re going to have a Republican Congress led by a pro-Democratic puppet.”
Both of these MPs are staunch supporters of Trump. And although McCarty initially claimed Trump was responsible for the attack on Congress, within a week he decided that Trump would not provoke the attack. And while he personally acknowledges that members of his most right-wing group have potentially threatened others with their rhetoric since Jan. 6, over the next 16 months, he has repeatedly praised their actions in public.
