The creation of a new battle group was entrusted to Armen Sarkisyan, who is associated with the state company Gazprom.
The Kremlin is creating a new private military company that contains the influence in the Russian political sphere of the head of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin. This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
It was noted that the creation of a new battle group was entrusted to Armen Sargsyan. He is the owner of the holding company Tashir, a longtime subcontractor to the Russian state energy company Gazprom.
Senior Russian officials likely approved of Sargsyan’s efforts, as private military companies are prohibited by law in Russia, analysts recalled.
Russian officials may further promote Kadyrov’s existing parallel military structures and Sargsyan’s efforts to create a private military company to counter the growing influence of Prigozhin, who is using his structures to establish himself as a central figure in Russian politics.
It was also noted that the leader of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, regularly promotes his efforts to create parallel military structures based on Chechnya.
Recently, Kadyrov met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and said that they discussed the creation of new units of the Russian army and the National Guard, made up of Chechen personnel.
Recall that a Russian businessman, friend of Putin and head of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, sent a violin case to the European Parliament, in which he put a sledgehammer “in blood” engraved with the logo of his illegal armed group.
Earlier, Russian social networks published a video of the killing of Evgeny Nuzhin, a former prisoner of the Ryazan IK-3 and a member of the Wagner PMC, who, after being sent to the war in Ukraine, surrendered to Armed Forces of Ukraine. The footage shows how the sledgehammer smashed the man’s head. Later, the Russian media published an alleged commentary by Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of ChKV Wagner, in which he admitted that his mercenaries committed a massacre with a sledgehammer against a man.
