The President of Ukraine emphasized that food security is one of the main elements of global stability.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, in an evening speech to the people of Ukraine, paid special attention to food security and stressed that hunger should no longer be used as a weapon.
“Today we held the first International Summit on Food Security. We held it in Kyiv with our partners. And purposely – precisely these days when we honor the memory of the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933. The Ukrainians have gone through genocide. And now we are doing our best and it is impossible to stop the new genocidal policy of Russia. The step of creating a system that will stop the aggression, dismantle its consequences and guarantee a long-term security is security of Ukraine, throughout Europe and the world,” Zelensky said in his address.
The President asserted that food security is one of the main elements of global stability.
“This is where Ukraine’s leadership role is most visible. Thanks to our grain export initiative, through three Black Sea ports, we sent about 12 million tons of food to the world market. 40 countries in world. Of this volume, more than 2.5 million tons went to countries that not only have food insecurity, but a severe crisis. Through the UN Food Program, we have helped countries where people are literally starving or on the brink of starvation. This is, specifically, Ethiopia, Yemen. We also help Somalia and Afghanistan. And this is just the beginning.” Zelensky said.
It will be remembered now, on November 26, the founding summit of the new humanitarian initiative Grain From Ukraine was held in Kyiv.
