Wanda Dench’s viral dinner invite to Jamal Hinton is an accident that will soon trigger their seventh Thanksgiving together this year.
The couple’s text exchange went viral on social media in 2016 after Dench, 65, accidentally texted Hinton, someone she thought was her nephew.
Hinton responded with a selfie, but asked if she could have another dish from her grandmother in Arizona, who responded with a warm message.
“Sure you can. That’s what grandma does… she feeds everybody,” Dench wrote.
Hinton, 22, took to social media this week to confirm that the couple, whose viral friendship garners hundreds of thousands of Twitter likes each year, will be having dinner together on Thursday.
Dench’s Thanksgiving dinner included Hinton’s girlfriend Mikaela.
The two continued their tradition in 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the dinner came months after Dench’s husband Lonnie died following a battle with COVID-19.
Hinton was joined by Dench, whose husband regularly joined the couple at the table, as she honored her late husband and his parents with her first tattoo in September.
“I have three shooting stars,” Dench tweeted.
“Each represents my guardian angels in heaven: my husband who represents integrity, my mother who was brave and my father who was unconditional love.”
The friends’ story will be made into a movie on Netflix, the company announced last year, and will be about how a deep friendship was formed despite the two having “very different backgrounds.”
