Ukrainians are suffering from “martyr military aggression,” because their ancestors once suffered from an artificially created famine, the pontiff stressed.
Pope Francis compared Russia’s war on Ukraine to the Holodomor of 1932-33. It was reported on November 23 by Reuters.
“This Saturday marks the anniversary of the terrible genocide – the Holodomor of 1932-33, artificially created by (Joseph) Stalin. Let us pray for the victims of this genocide and pray for the Ukrainians – children, women , elders, who are now suffering the martyrdom of military aggression,” the pope said at the weekly general audience in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican.
Earlier, Francis said that the brutality of the Russian military, with which they operate in Ukraine, is not inherent in the Russian people.
The Pope is sure that the war in Ukraine “will not be solved by weapons”
