Poland’s head of state spoke on the phone about the missile that fell on a village in eastern Poland with a person he believed to be French President Emmanuel Macron. President Andrzej Duda’s office confirmed the interview on Tuesday, November 22, as an audio recording circulated online claimed to be two Russian comedians who are used to pranking people.
It is said that the two persons have connections with the Russian security services. “After the explosion of a rocket in Przewodov, during a series of negotiations with the heads of states and governments, a phone conversation took place with the candidate for the French President Emmanuel Macron.Mr Duda’s office tweeted:
“Mr. Duda realized from the way the conversation was conducted (…) that it could be an attempt at deception and hung up the phone.“, the Polish presidency later noted. Asked by AFP if they were behind the call, the Russian comedians said:Vova and Lexus” confirmed that “we said it on all social networks (…) and posted a video“.
A joke of Russian comedians
In this recording from last Tuesday, a person with a thick Russian accent claims to be the president of France. The heads of the two states discussed the explosion of a rocket in Poland, which occurred earlier in the day, as a result of which two people were killed.
According to Warsaw, the explosion was most likely caused by a Ukrainian air defense missile, although initial speculation pointed to Russia. “Hi Emmanuel… Thanks for the call. The situation is very complicated, as you probably knowsaid Mr. Duda in this recording.
He said that the explosion was caused by a rocket.started by no one knows whoand that he was awaiting the results of the investigation. “Emmanuel, believe me, I am extremely careful. I don’t blame the Russians (…) I don’t want a war with Russia“, he added.
Mr Duda also said Poland was not considering invoking Article 5 of the NATO treaty, which obliges member states to come to the aid of one of their own if attacked. The President of Poland was also asked about Russian speculation that Ukraine is going to use dirty bombs.
“I am more afraid of some problems with nuclear power plants in Ukraine (…) I am more afraid of a nuclear disasterhe answered. The Russian comedians posted the seven-and-a-half-minute appeal on their page of the Russian video platform Rutube, the equivalent of YouTube.
The duo, whose real names are Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexei Stolyarov, have made a habit of spoofing politicians and pop stars in prank calls. Their previous victims include Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, pop icon Elton John, Prince Harry. President Duda has also already fallen victim to their deception, thinking that he discussed UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in 2020.
