The Austrian Foreign Ministry has promised for the first time to inform Hungarian colleagues that the country depicted on Orban’s map has not existed for almost a hundred years.
Transleithania, depicted on Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s scarf, has not existed for a century. This was announced on Tuesday, November 22, according to ARA, of the Austrian Foreign Ministry, which promises to inform the Hungarian colleagues.
“A quick look at the historical maps at the Foreign Office confirmed the initial assumptions that Transleithania has not existed for nearly 100 years. We will inform our Hungarian neighbors of this development at the earliest opportunity,” said of the Austrian ministry.
Transleitania is the name given to the lands of the Hungarian crown as part of the two pronged Austria-Hungary.
Recall that Orban came to a friendly football match between the national teams of Hungary and Greece in Budapest with a scarf, depicting a map of “Great Hungary” with parts of neighboring states in the composition of it – modern Austria, Slovakia, Romania, Croatia, Serbia and Ukraine – belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary at the end of the First World War, then they were lost under the terms of the Treaty of Trianon. Orban’s scarf has sparked outrage in Ukraine and Romania.
