Ukraine’s parliament’s human rights chief denied on Sunday that Kiev forces had killed Russian prisoners of war, insisting Ukrainian soldiers were defending themselves against Russians pretending to surrender.

Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said that “excerpts from the video– Moscow presented as evidence that Kiev executed the surrendered Russian soldiers, in fact it showed that the Russiansunder false pretenses…committed a war crime by opening fire on Ukrainian armed forces“and that the Russian soldiers killed”.therefore cannot be considered a prisoner of war“.
