After controlling the spit, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to weaken enemy strikes on the coast, Western analysts say.
The liberation of the Kinburn Spit, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine are fighting, will allow Ukraine to control exits to some ports. In addition, it will increase naval activity and make it possible to potentially conduct a crossing on the left bank of the Dnieper. This is stated in the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Analysts note that Kinburn Spit is located 4 km across the strait from Ochakov. Taking it under control will allow controlling the entrance to the Dnieper, the Southern Bug, as well as the ports of Nikolaev and Kherson.
Russian invaders used the scythe for rocket and artillery strikes on Ochakov, the southern part of the Mykolaiv region and Ukrainian-controlled areas near the Black Sea.
ISW believes that control of the Kinburn Spit will allow the Armed Forces of Ukraine to weaken Russian strikes on the coast. In addition, the activity of the Ukrainian navy in this case could increase, as well as conduct operations to cross the left bank under less artillery fire than crossing the Dnieper.
Experts also draw attention to the fact that the spit is located outside the 25-km zone of action of the 152-mm artillery of the Russian army on the left bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region.
It should be noted that on November 15, the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not confirm the information about the capture of Kinburn Spit and Oleshek on the left bank of Kherson. However, the previous day, messages appeared on social networks about the alleged release of Oleshki and the Kinburn Spit.
The head of the Nikolaev OVA, Vitaly Kim, said earlier that the Kinburn Spit is the only territory of the region that was not liberated from the invaders.
