The Turkish leader expressed regret that Russia did not fulfill its obligations to “cleanse Syria of terrorists.”
Russia has not fulfilled its obligation to “cleanse” some regions of Syria “from terrorists.” This is what Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, Daily Sabah reported on Monday, November 21.
“Unfortunately, despite repeated reminders from the Turkish side, these obligations have not been fulfilled. They are not fulfilled, they will not be fulfilled,” Erdogan said.
According to him, Turkey’s military operation against Kurdish paramilitaries in northern Iraq and Syria may not be limited to air strikes.
“This is not limited to air operation… We will decide how much ground forces are needed and take the appropriate step,” he said.
The Turkish leader also added that the troops “will hold consultations.” However, he did not directly confirm the possibility of an invasion.
Erdogan also said he did not coordinate the operation with the Russian Federation or the United States.
“Both Biden and Putin know that we can do such things in this region at any time,” the Turkish president said.
It should be noted that on November 20, Turkey launched a military operation Claw-sword – a cross-border air campaign.
Official Ankara said it was directed against the paramilitary wing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and the Syrian Kurdish YPG, who “are hiding on the borders of Iraq and Syria, from where they are planning attacks on Turkish territory .”
It began after the November 13 terrorist attack in Istanbul “in accordance with the right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter.”
The Turkish Defense Ministry reported that the strikes were carried out at a depth of 140 km in Iraqi and 20 km in Syrian territory.
It will be remembered that in the center of Istanbul on Sunday, November 13, there was a strong explosion.
As reported on November 20, the Turkish Air Force attacked Kurdish bases in Syria and northern Iraq.
Earlier it was reported that Erdogan had a phone conversation with Vladimir Putin.
