NASAMS air defense systems shoot down almost 100% of cruise missiles. But they are not enough for the Ukrainian military to shoot down targets more effectively.
This was announced on November 21 by the speaker of the Air Force Yuri Ignat.
The systems already provided by partners to Ukraine are effectively working in the air defense system. There are two NASAMS systems, which, like IRIS-T (now one installation), have already proven themselves in anti-aircraft combat. Almost 100% hit from these complexes. These are modern complexes with a good target detection system, as well as missiles that actually completely destroy enemy cruise missiles. The problem is that we don’t have enough of these systems,” he said during a briefing.
Ignat noted that today the air defense of Ukraine is not only anti-aircraft missile systems of the air force and fighters, but also the air defense of the ground forces, naval forces and other defense forces.
At the same time, Air Force anti-aircraft missile troops sometimes have to fire two obsolete missiles at one modern Russian cruise target.
Usually, two anti-aircraft missiles are fired at an air target in order to have a better chance of destroying it,” Ignat said.
He also said that Russia had problems with the supply of ballistic missiles from Iran.
Ignat suggests that this may be due to diplomatic pressure or some kind of negotiation process or the influence of “certain countries” on this.
I hope that Russia will never receive these missiles, but you still need to prepare for any challenges, because Moscow will not stop its terror, – said the air defense spokesman.
At the same time, he believes that “it’s worth preparing for everything.”
Ignat suggested that Russia would not be able to quickly deploy the production of Iranian drones on its territory.
It all depends on many factors, in particular, on the desire of countries to expand production. It is clear that we are not talking about weeks, but about months. It won’t be fast, it will take time. It is clear that Iran just wants to avoid sanctions pressure by handing over these mopeds to Russia,” he said.
